Mitten issues ~

The first mitten turned out great ~ with the small design feature of the thumb being a little on the long and wide side. Plus I did the duplicate stitch on the thumb as keeping the fair isle pattern going on that small thumb was making me a little crazy with the 3 double pointed needles in the way...

Once the first mitten was finished, I cast on the second mitten, as no "second mitten syndrome" for me! As I patted myself on the back, I realized that there was another issue in my mitten future....

I didn't have enough yarn to complete mitten #2....oh, dear...... I will have to go to my local yarn store tomorrow.....(how bad is that, eh?!!!)

Red is the new Black ~

My daughter H mentioned in passing that she really likes red. When I told her about a new lacy pattern I wanted to try, she asked if I could make it out of the new red Cascade Cash Vera that I'd found on sale at Cultured Purls, our local yarn shop. I cast on, and the pattern didn't work for me, as the triple yarn over was hard to drop on the next row, as it was hard to identify.. and soon I had lots of gaps and the wrong number of stitches... so I went back to the tried & true drop stitch scarf pattern and made real progress the first night! The yarn has cashmere in it, so it is very soft and good to work with. It is a cranberry red color, and H likes it so far!

Local Yarn Store ~

My friend and I did some relaxing Tai Chi as part of our City's Wellness program today. We learned how to move slowly and breathe deeply and balance with intent and purpose. We were told to relax fully and focus on the smallest details of our movements, the air passing over our forearms, our shoulders dropping when relaxed, our fingers loose, our hip joint flexed, our balance even..... it was relaxing and we know we need to practice, as any good relaxation technique needs to be practiced.... as we left the gym with our water bottles, D says to me, "How about a trip to Cultured Purls on the way back to work?" Well, there is another relaxation technique that we need to keep practicing.... shopping in our local yarn store! She found the lace turbos she needed, and I found some red cashmere on sale and some creamy silk blend on sale! Practice makes perfect!

Mission Accomplished ~

Anna's hat is beautiful! I finished it with alternating stripes of a soft alpaca blend that I found at my local yarn store, Cultured Purls. If you really study the hat, you can see where the yarn changes are, as the crown of the hat has a bit of an angora halo. The lace blocked out very well and the Pagewood Farms Yarn was great to work with. My sister is very pleased with it, too.

Since I only had to use a wee bit of the alpaca blend yarn, I also bought a matching yarn to make Anna another chemo cap in purples..... with a new pattern, too.....

AACK! Yarn Emergency!

I didn't realize that Pagewood Farms yarn is a small scale hand dyer operation and difficult to find... as I am not going to have enough to finish Anna's hat... Friend Lisa tried 8 local yarn shops and I tried one.....so now I am on the hunt for matching yarn... The pattern is turning out well, the lace was easy and will block well too (I think). I will try our local yarn store, too, Cultured Purls.
P.S. Can you believe this snow?
