Sold out ~

A knitting friend bought the new Interweave Holiday magazine the day before we went on the tour of the Cascade Yarn Warehouse Tour. I looked through the magazine when we stopped for coffee afterwards, and liked several patterns, especially the cover Paprika hat and mittens. By the time I was out shopping and started looking for my own copy, I couldn't find them. All sold out everywhere I went. Major Bummer.... Then, Hurrah! Look what another knitting friend gave me for Christmas!!!

HURRAH!!! Guess who cast on the Paprika Hat!! (a very excited me!)

Crime and Punishment ~

I hate to even say this, but it needs to be said. I have not knit since Saturday evening. This picture shows the newly cast on Paprika Hat from Interweave, that I think I messed up in the wee hours of Saturday night...and my last thought was, "I'll look at this with fresh eyes in the morning, and perhaps rip back or start over."

I've not been able to get back... and it is a crime to not knit for five days..... five days... I really cannot believe it, until I see my sad little cast on hat by the Christmas tree... waiting for me to decide what to do next.... What is the punishment for no knitting for 5 days (as if that isn't punishment right there...) other than a triple dose of knitting fantasy....or being banished from the blog... or....

P.S. Jitteryknitter and I were mentioned on the Knit Wits podcast this week ~ check it out!

Time for Fall?

Hard to believe that our summer here has just begun to roll...as you might recall there were some of us in long underwear watching the 4th of July fireworks... and today this appears in our mailbox....

So I'm taking the Fall/Winter issue of Interweave Knits out on the back deck, where our tomatoes are still green... and reading about wool sweaters and mittens and fuzzy hats.....so very odd....but I'm looking forward to it....

Dear Interweave ~

Dear Interweave:
Where is my Fall 2009 Issue? I called you after the Sock Summit to tell you that my friends had received their copies, and you said you would send another issue to me right away.... I called last week to say I AM DESPERATE as I still have not received my copy, and my friends have cast on projects, and I've listened to many pod casts about the wonderful projects in this issue.... and where is my issue... either the original one, or the one allegedly sent after Sock Summit? The nice lady on the phone said my issue(s) are probably lost at the post office....but....but.....I AM GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWAL!!!!!!

If you could send a courier out with the issue, I promise to quit stalking the last copy in the grocery store.....

Pondering the Next Knit ~

Although I have a few projects "on the needles" I am still thinking about what I want to cast on next. There are so many beautiful patterns available, and with spring in the air (finally) there are so many possibilities for warm weather knits. I must admit that I've not opened my new Interweave Knits magazine yet, as I'm worried it will send me into a "new pattern frenzy" as happened with the First Page of the last Interweave Knits magazine. I saw this pattern for a lacey wrap, and thought it would be great out of my Cascade Cloud 9 in bright green. Wouldn't that look great?

now that I think about it, what is wrong with "new pattern frenzy"?

More inspiration ~

Yippee! The new Interweave Knits has arrived! I've decided that I'll be "allowed" to read it once I've finished listening to Breaking Dawn as that will give me extra motivation to finish this audio book before the due date at the library. So far, the Interweave looks like it has a lot of potential ~ remembering that the last issue sucked me in from the very first page of advertising, as it was the Lacy Pullover (shown below March 31, 2009 post).

New Pattern ~

For those of you who have read your Spring Interweave Knits, did you get past the ad on the back of the front cover? I didn't.... the summer top shown was so pretty, and the ocean behind her was so inviting...that I obsessed over the pattern for two weeks before I broke down and ordered it....
It arrived Saturday, and I think my yarn from last summer's tank top project will be perfect. It is called Premiere by Classic Elite Yarns, and it 50% pima cotton and 50% tencel ~ and it feels so soft. I'm not sure I understand why the pattern says to knit on straight needles (and not circulars), plus I'd like to knit in the round, and am not sure if the pattern needs to change... we'll see.... I'll keep you posted.

On her needles ~

During vacation, I read Vicki Square's article in the new Interweave Knits called "Start as Many New Projects as You Can," and her last sentence amazed me: "Knit anything and everything you want--and enjoy the scenery!" I had the delightful journey of looking through many "on the needles" of my great knitting friend who lives this casting on dream. As I held each and every piece of beautiful yarn and thought of the new pattern she used, I was starting to be twitchy as I wanted to finish each one....they were all so beautiful ~ lace scarves ~ alpaca scarves ~ socks out of pink delights~ socks out of boot wool ~ a hat out of Frog Tree ~ a sweater out of silky wool ~ so many chocolates to sample, so much inspiration in each bin and bag. I'm not sure I feel the need to finish up a project to its tidy ending..... when all those projects were singing a sirens' song of "play with me" in so many languages of silk, alpaca, wool and blends ~ lace, entralac and fair isle....So I will continue to live vicariously through her projects.... I wish I had some pictures of her great starts to share with you.....but here are her finished hats!

I need more projects on my needles!!!!

When to read?

Another exciting event! My second Interweave Knits Magazine arrived in the mail! My very own subscription to this knitting magazine is so amazing, as I was always reading a friend's copy or checking the library for past copies. My sweet friend gave me a subscription for my birthday and it has been wonderful to think about having peaceful time to reflect on all the arcicles and patterns ~ but when does one read it? I am not done reading my first magazine yet, as I am carefully and thoughtfully pondering each bit of wisdome and advice, and weighing each pattern and yarn thinking, "Could I knit that?" or "Would I want to knit that?" or "I should try that!" or "I should find that!" so reading the entire magazine is taking some time....probably good that it is quarterly, so I am not too far behind?
