Veterans' Day thanks ~

I would like to take today to thank my dad for his service to our country in WWII. I called him today to thank him again, as I call him every year on Veterans' Day and Memorial Day to thank him. I call him and mum many other times in the year, of course, but I always call dad on these special days of remembrance.I can't imagine what it would have been like to be shipped across the world to fight in a strange place, with service people I've just met. All of us fighting a terrible force that defies the human values that we have been raised with. All of us missing home, fighting a terrible terrible menace that caused such heartache in the world. Thanks dad, for fighting for us, and for future generations. (I love these pics from 1965 & 67!!)

Veterans' Day ~

If you know someone who has served, or is now serving in our country's Armed Forces, please take a moment to thank them for our continued freedom. I called my dad today, and thanked him again for his service in World War II. I had a great visit with him and mum, and I let him know how grateful I am, and our family is of his service, and all the Veterans that have served, and continue to serve our country.

Here's dad and I (above), Christmas 1969...he's opening his new Corona typewriter!

Here's dad with my sister (above), in 1971...

Now we are seven ~

There are seven of us at work (that is counting the JitteryKnitter who "works" with us in spirit) that are taking up the challenge of helping to knit 1000 helmet liners for our troops overseas. The Patternworks site (at this link) shows what the challenge is, and how to participate. The challenge ends in February, so as not to interfere with holiday knitting projects that you may already have in your queue...

We're going to knit our seven in a nice chocolate brown (not this lovely blue) of Cascade 220, please say you'll join us so we can be 1,ooo?!

Thank a Veteran ~

On this special day, Veterans' Day, please thank a Veteran for serving our country. This is my favorite Veteran, my dad. He served in WWII and we are thankful everyday that he made it back so that he could marry mum, have a family and make a big difference in the world to our family and to all the kids & teachers that he worked with during his education career of teaching and being a Principal.

Thanks, Dad, I really appreciate all that you do.....

More Ribs Please

These socks should almost be done, just keep knitting the ribs. I knit some decreases as well, to ensure that the ribbing will be snug ~ the loose lace part seems very loose on rockin'13's slim legs. Here is one on rockin'10's slim leg and ticklish foot ~ both daughters are now doing homework on this vacation day, so I was happy to get a slim leg to model for this post.
