Go Red Wings ~

Part of my Sweet Jazz success was due to Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the Red Wings are still in the race.
The last two games against the Sharks were nail biters! Go Wings!!! We want Stanley!

Clapotis and Red Wings ~

Hockey Night in Canada is a wonderful event. So rarely do we get the TV station to watch, but we did this weekend. Saturday night watching Toronto vs Detroit ~ I love this combination.

Knitting through the power plays at Hockey Town. Dropping stitches while the puck is moving like lightning.
Perfect ending - Detroit 4, Toronto 2. Love those Red Wings!

Red Wings advance ~

In game seven, the Red Wings beat Phoenix in high scoring excitement! Now on to San Jose.

Other excitement, I knit a few rows on my Barfly sweater while watching the 3rd period.

Lots of excitement here!

Red Wings and Phoenix ~

We watched one of the best Red Wings' games that I've ever seen last Friday.
High scoring and lots of great skating.

Plus the Red Wings won...and Zetterberg had his first hat trick in the playoffs ~ all good!

Red Wings win ~

We don't like the "shoot out" in hockey this year, as the Red Wings have lost a few games after a long struggle and overtime... only to lose in the shoot out. But, tonight we won in overtime...

Very happy, indeed!

Against Vancouver!

Harry and the Red Wings ~

Working on Harry's ribbing while watching the Red Wings playing Phoenix.

I thought we (the Red Wings) were going to win, as we were ahead in the last period.

But the Red Wings lost...I'm not even sure how they lost, as I didn't see the last few minutes... Rats...

Overtime blues ~

Last weekend the Packers lost in overtime.... Today the Detroit Redwings lost in overtime... to be technically correct, we didn't lose in overtime, but in a sudden death shoot out....those are real nail biters!!!

New goalie that I've never seen before today ~ Jimmy Howard. I hope he has a good year (better than today's showing, although he was pretty tough).

Overtime provides more time for bonding with my guy, well, and more time for knitting... but it is a major bummer when we lose after all this time and effort!
The helmet liner is just about done ~ I'm knitting the decreases for the crown, and then I have to pick up the stitches around the face for a 2 by 2 rib so the wool stays close to the soldier's face. I'll let you know how the picking up stitches works, as that is a bit tricky for me to pick them up evenly...

Hockey woes ~

The Red Wings did not do very well against Toronto tonight ~ rats...

but still allowed time for a bit of hockey knitting ~ still on this Packers hat!

Visiting Stanley ~

I think I mentioned that the Hockey season has started and the Red Wings are looking great, even with so many young players. In our visit to our home town, we may indeed get a chance to see our favorite Stanley....

the amazing purple octopus that inspires us to victory!! Think of the knitting Stanley could do if he could figure out how to hold knitting needles....

He could have 4 projects going at the same time!!!

(a true knitting fantasy!)

Seasons Greetings ~

Hockey season has begun! After baseball lasting forever, it is great to be able to see the Red Wings skating again. We were able to watch the Red Wings skate against Toronto in an exhibition game.

The Red Wings have lots of new players this year, so they will be fun to watch as they develop into the great veteran team we have had for years!

Always a great opportunity to get some sweetie time and knitting time!

River knitting tools ~

You may be wondering what tools one needs to river knit successfully. Good question. I've been river knitting for a few years now, and this is what I have learned.

I have a neck band that folks use for their ID cards, notably mine is very cool ~ Red Wings Hockey Champions! I have scissors, a measuring tape, darning needle and row counter attached. also, a cold Diet Coke in a Sloppy Joe's holder (from my Florida life) is an important tool as well.

I also have the pattern in a plastic envelope and a green/blue waterproof bag with a zipper (seen in the bottom right corner of this picture) so that nothing can fall out if the bag lands in the water....

No Stanley this year ~

We interrupt the Webs Parade for this breaking news:
Stanley is leaving Detroit this year, as the Red Wings lost game 7 of the series. They didn't play with the energy and magic we've seen in their home games, and they couldn't get their momentum going. The guys we count on for those clutch plays just couldn't produce, and it was a frustrating loss in Hockey Town. I'm going to look forward to bringing back Stanley next year.

I did some knitting on the very fuzzy white & purple scarf, as the sweetie from Ravelry sent me a skein of the Patons I needed... more on that later.

Speaking of Stanley, last year (2008) my man and I were able to get tickets to a series game. We were thrilled, and when I walked into the arena and saw HOCKEY TOWN on the ice, it gave me goose bumps! Then Stanley started coming down from the ceiling and we knew we were in for a game we would never forget.... and Red Wings won that night... what a great night for Red Wings...and they won the Stanley Cup that year. Here are great pictures of Stanley, courtesy of mackie's photobucket: (gotta love Stanley ~ I'm sure he's coming back to Detroit next year!)

Too Excited ~

I was so excited thinking about the Red Wings game yesterday (and hanging laundry out on the line is very exciting too), I forgot to post pictures of the finished hat. Here it is, the one knit with Jo Sharp Silk Road Ultra that I found on sale at the Sewing Expo in February. The pattern is "That Chocolate's gone straight to your ribs" and I've made it several times. It works well and knits up pretty fast. I ordered more Silk Road from the Webs Sale, as it is great to knit!

Cleaning up ~

When I finish a project, I like to revel in the casting off and feel great that I've finished a project. I try on the item (if adult size) and take a few pictures. I made sure the ends are woven in, and put the supplies and needles back. I begin thinking of a new cast on....

The same "cleaning up" thinking, as I was hanging the family laundry out today (on my marvelous clothes line) I laughed when I hung up this wash cloth (can you see it with the red Red Wings logo?). I'm sure it is called something else at the hockey game, like the terrible towels or the devilish dish cloth.... but I thought it looked so great on our line ~ we'll call it the power play line, or the Grind Line ~ just like the Red Wings. I do hope they are getting some rest, plus getting psyched up for the game Tuesday! Some great excitement and great knitting time!

Shutout Knitting ~

After the lousy two hockey games in Pittsburgh, tonight's 5 to zero victory for the Red Wings was a welcome outcome. Back in Hockey Town, the Wings skated like the Stanley Cup Champions they are. Home rink advantage and Pavel Datsyuk back in the line up, and we made it Chris Osgood's 3rd shut out victory in Stanley Cup Finals... what a great goalie he is! This picture was taken after the 3rd goal ~ by Henrik Zetterberg ....as you can see, I was able to knit a lot during this game!

I finished the hat during the commentary at the end! Bravo Wings!

Red Wings in The Series ~

Yes, the Red Wings are in the final series of the Stanley Cup playoffs! They won the first two games against the penguins at home in Hockey Town! Sadly, they lost last night when the series went away from Detroit, so we are hoping that is the only win for the penguins!

As you can see, I can get a lot of knitting done during hockey games!

Red Wings ~ red scarf ~

Knitting with red yarn seemed perfect while watching the Red Wings beat Chicago, especially when the pattern is the easy drop stitch scarf. It is knitting up fast and looks great, plus very fun to knit while watching hockey! Go Wings!!!!!

Red Wings again ~

The Detroit Red Wings won their first game against the Chicago 5 to 2! Yeah! Hockey knitting continues, with another scarf for H. This one is another stash buster, out of Patons Brilliance which is a real fuzzy white, plus a very skinny purple with a bit of glitter thread intertwined. I've doubled the purple, and it is still hard to see anything but the white fuzzy... but, H likes it, so that is the most important... plus it is a stash buster, so that is a bonus!!!!

Stanley Cup Knitting ~

The Detroit Red Wings are in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and we are thrilled to get a few games here on the Pacific Northwest. Today's game was a major bummer, loosing in triple overtime. Triple overtime is almost like playing another entire game ~ those boys were tired skaters! By the time I was able to watch the game, the first overtime had just begun, and I was able to knit only when the whistle blew... as the skating was too exciting to not be glued to the action on the TV. This picture is taken at the second overtime.....
